Son of DHL Founder Lost at Sea Advances Claims Against Trustee

A biological son of DHL Worldwide Express founder Larry Hillblom—whose estate paid $360 million to settle paternity claims after he was lost at sea—is proceeding with allegations that Wilmington Trust Co. cost him $1.1 million by mishandling his inheritance.

Vice Chancellor Morgan T. Zurn let the lawsuit move forward Tuesday, saying it’s plausible Wilmington is liable for failing to keep Wells Lory Hillblom in the loop as it fought over fees with the law firm that established his parentage. His trust allegedly ended up paying the firm $1.4 million after Wilmington, the trustee, ignored a $300,000 settlement offer.
