Senate Democrats are attempting to tie the UAW’s recent push for restored pensions to a broader and widening national retirement access gap, as part of an effort to make the case for defined-benefits investments in corporate America.

At a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing Wednesday, which focused on expanding private-sector pension access, committee Chair Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) unveiled new research showing that nearly half of Americans are at risk of a financially insecure retirement, up from just one in three workers in 1983.
