SEC Rejects Goodyear Bid to Stop Investor’s Microplastics Plan

The SEC declined to back a Goodyear effort to toss a shareholder proposal urging the tiremaker to pursue microplastics reduction goals, raising the odds that investors will vote on the resolution.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said in a March 3 letter it disagreed with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plans to bar the resolution from the company’s proxy ballot for its annual meeting later this year. Goodyear looked to block the vote under SEC rules that permit exclusion if a resolution micromanages a company or involves its ordinary operations.
