SEC Regulatory Focus on Diversity Gathers Speed, Official Says

The Securities and Exchange Commission will continue to gather momentum on diversity rulemaking, said the director of the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion on Wednesday.

Pamela Gibbs noted that, under chair Gary Gensler, the SEC has approved Nasdaq rules on board diversity, is mulling its own potential board diversity rules for a broader range of companies, and is revisiting human capital disclosure rules. Gibbs noted that these recent moves follow an almost decade-long gap without diversity-related rulemaking after corporate board diversity disclosures from 2009.
