Republican state attorneys general from 21 states on Tuesday challenged Institutional Shareholder Services Inc. and Glass, Lewis & Co. on the firms’ proxy advice to shareholders on top ESG issues such as climate change and boardroom diversity.
The letter, led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, takes aim at ISS and Glass Lewis’s recently updated voting guidelines for the 2023 proxy season, saying the recommendations aren’t material to investors and “may threaten the economic value” of their states’ investments and pensions.
