The controversial founder of Papa John’s International Inc. hasn’t slipped quietly into the background like Starboard Value LP may have hoped.

John Schnatter, who exited his roles as both chief executive officer and chairman in the past two years but remains a key shareholder, fired shots at the pizza company in a New York Post editorial, claiming it’s been badly run since his departure.
