Norfolk Southern Sues CSX Over New England Freight Rail Line (1)

Norfolk Southern Railway Co. sued CSX Transportation Inc., claiming the rival freight railroad is using a regional subsidiary to interfere with its operations in New England.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, accuses CSX of reneging on pledges it made to assuage antitrust worries raised by the Surface Transportation Board, the regulatory body that signed off on its acquisition of Pan Am Railways Inc. Pan Am and Norfolk Southern co-own Pan Am Southern LLC, a joint venture that runs 400 miles of track along the “Patriot Corridor” connecting Albany, N.Y., to a major freight link northwest of Boston.
