Morgan Stanley Rehires Tech Banker Grimes From Commerce Role

Michael Grimes, who had previously helped lead technology investment banking at Morgan Stanley, is set to rejoin the Wall Street bank after a stint working for the US Commerce Department.

He will become chairman of investment banking and be based in Menlo Park, California, according to a memo seen by Bloomberg News.

Grimes, who first joined Morgan Stanley more than 30 years ago, was known for his role advising clients on major technology deals including Elon Musk’s initial purchase of Twitter, which was later rebranded as X.
