Miami Businessman Pleads Guilty in Venezuela Bribery Probe

A Miami executive pleaded guilty to paying bribes to win business from Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela SA, and its Houston-based subsidiary, Citgo Petroleum Corp.

Jose Manuel Gonzalez Testino became the 17th person to plead guilty in a U.S. government investigation into bribery at PDVSA, admitting to a violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, conspiracy and failure to report foreign bank accounts, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement May 29. Gonzales is one of 21 who were charged in the probe. He’s scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 28.
