Meta Scores Injunction, Cash in Deal Ending Data Scraping Case

Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. has dropped its lawsuit against two Israeli data harvesting companies in exchange for a settlement payment and their pledge to abide by an injunction ending most of their “scraping” practices, according to a federal court filing Friday in San Francisco.

The joint stipulation, docketed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, requires BrandTotal Ltd. and Unimania Inc. to refrain from data collection practices targeting Facebook or its sister platform, Instagram, and to delete any data acquired that way in the past.
