Meta Investors Reject Scrutinizing Risk of AI Misinformation (2)

Meta Platforms Inc. investors on Wednesday voted against proposals urging the social media giant to examine how artificial intelligence-fueled misinformation or AI-driven advertising could harm its bottom line and its users.

One of the unsuccessful bids raised concerns about generative AI amplifying misinformation and disinformation on Meta’s platforms, which include Facebook and Instagram. This poses “serious threats to the company, human rights, and democratic processes,” the proposal from impact investment firm Arjuna Capital stated. The proposal received backing from 17% of the investor vote.
