Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s unit in Denmark has agreed to pay fine of a 1 million kroner ($144,000) for greenwashing, the country’s consumer ombudsman said.

The carmaker marketed its vehicles from September 2021 to January 2022 as certified environmentally friendly and part of the “green revolution,” claims for which it failed to provide sufficient documentation, the ombudsman said in a statement on Thursday.

The consumer ombudsman reported Mercedes-Benz to police in December for allegedly misleading consumers about its green credentials, as part of a wider crackdown on inflated environmental claims.
