Mastercard Shareholders Reject Lobbying, Gun Sales Proposals

Mastercard Inc. shareholders on Tuesday voted against a proposal asking the company for more transparency about its lobbying payments and policies.

The proposal, brought by John Chevedden, asked the company to assess whether its lobbying lines up with, or contradicts, its public positions. The proposal asked that the report disclose payments used for direct lobbying as well as lobbying through trade associations or other organizations, and lobbying on specific legislation or regulations.

Mastercard, which said the shareholder proposals didn’t pass at the meeting without providing the percentage of investor support, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday. ...
