Marines to Withdraw From LA After Trump Deployment Over Protests

The Trump administration will begin withdrawing 700 Marines that were deployed to the Los Angeles area last month, the latest de-escalation of the president’s contentious crackdown on the city’s anti-deportation protests.

The Marines will be redeployed due to “stability returning to Los Angeles,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement. Last week, the administration released about half of the roughly 4,000 California National Guard troops that it deployed in the area.
