Many Large Global Companies Fail to Make Robust Net Zero Pledges

Global companies that are the most significant contributors to planet-warming emissions have failed so far to make robust commitments to decarbonize their operations, according to a new report.

Research by the World Bank and the nonprofit CDP found that 157 multinational companies now account for 60% of the world’s industrial greenhouse gas emissions, of which 10% is tied to their direct operations and 50% to their supply chains. The data also shows that just a quarter of these companies have committed to hit net zero by 2050, while only 13% have set medium-term goals and 5% have announced short-term plans. ...
