Kroger Cites Sustainability Risks, Cuts DEI Section From Report

Sustainability goals “are becoming more controversial” amid criticism of environmental, social and governance efforts, Kroger Co. warned shareholders in its annual report.

The actions of President Donald Trump’s administration “and changes in investor perspectives could also affect our ability to pursue our sustainability goals and could lead to increased criticism and associated reputational harm,” the grocery store chain said Tuesday in its 10-K filing. Kroger added that it could face pushback prompted by the conservative movement against environmental, social and governance issues, including from government authorities, regulators, shareholders and customers.
