Iowa’s AG Mulls Next Step in Face of Abortion Law Challenge

The Iowa Attorney General’s Office hasn’t made its decision on whether, and how, it will defend the strictest abortion bill in the nation.

Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) May 4 signed SF 359, legislation requiring practitioners to perform an abdominal ultrasound before performing an abortion. If a fetal heartbeat is detected, the practitioner would be required to inform the woman of the heartbeat and would then be prohibited from performing an abortion.
