House Republicans Pass Anti-ESG Bills, Teeing Up 2025 Priorities

The House passed a package of Republican-led bills meant to rein in environmental, social, and governance initiatives across corporate America.

The package passed Thursday in a 215-203 vote, with one lawmaker voting present. It would limit the Securities and Exchange Commission’s power to require public companies to report on issues seen as unrelated to their financial health. The legislation also forces the SEC to study the impact of a European climate-change disclosure rule on American companies. Another provision seeks to allow companies more power to reject ESG-related shareholder proposals offered at their annual meetings.
