House Appropriators Advance Nuclear-Focused Energy Spending Bill

House Appropriators Wednesday approved in a 34-25 vote a proposal that would increase funding for nuclear weapon and energy development.

The bill, which provides $58.5 billion in fiscal year 2027 funding for energy and water development, according to a GOP summary, will now go to the House floor for a vote.

Republicans lauded the bill as one that would strengthen American’s nuclear abilities, national security, and the Trump administration’s energy agenda. Democrats bashed the proposal, saying it would worsen rising energy costs and hurt energy innovation and environmental cleanup efforts.
