The Department of Homeland Security is working quickly to clear any compliant shipments detained under a new US law that bars Chinese imports made with forced labor, an agency official said Wednesday.
The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which took effect in June, assumes that any product made with goods even partially sourced from the Xinjiang region of China has been made with forced labor by Uyghurs or other Muslim citizens. Those imports can’t enter the US unless a company can prove otherwise by meeting strict documentation requirements about sourcing.
