Home Depot shareholders on Thursday voted against a proposal asking the company to report how its political donations line up with its values.

The proposal, put forward by the Tara Health Foundation, said certain political donations can cause public backlash and even harm recruitment. While Home Depot publicly discloses a policy on its corporate political spending and its direct contributions to candidates, parties and committees, investors lack information that would help determine if the home improvement giant “is directing its political expenditures in a way that is consistent with company values and interests and mitigates reputation risk,” the proposal said. ...
