Former Market Basket Chief Executive Officer Arthur T. Demoulas told a judge he realized his three sisters wanted him out of the family’s 90-store grocery chain when the board demanded he provide operating budgets and rejected his son and daughter as potential successors.

“We do a lot of things here that aren’t by the numbers,” Demoulas, 70, testified in a Delaware Chancery Court trial over his firing that is the latest twist in generations of family squabbling for control over the $8 billion-a-year New England retailer.
