Companies will have to rethink their breach notification processes as the Federal Communications Commission expands its reporting obligations for telecommunications carriers.
The FCC’s update—the first since 2013—is aimed at establishing stronger consumer safety protections for an age where mobile carriers are collecting more data than ever before, Jessica Rosenworcel said on Dec. 13 in remarks adopting the order. But attorneys and companies that have to comply with these rules argue the FCC’s efforts may be redundant and add to a burdensome regulatory landscape.
