Exxon Asks Court to Block Investors’ Future Climate Proposals

Exxon shareholders that withdrew a climate-related proposal in the face of legal pressure from the oil giant should be barred from bringing similar environmental, social and governance campaigns at future annual meetings, the company told a court.

Activist investors Arjuna Capital and Follow This are pursuing an “anti-fossil-fuel agenda” aimed at stopping Exxon Mobil Corp. from exploring for oil and gas, the company said in a filing with the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas on Monday. The shareholders’ ESG proposal urged Exxon to speed up its greenhouse gas emission reductions efforts.
