The European Commission has proposed delaying key elements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), in a move it says would reduce the administrative burden on small and mid-sized enterprises.
- The goal is to encourage better regulation, implementation and enforcement of EU law
- “Reducing administrative burdens is crucial to maintaining the competitiveness of European businesses,” the commission said
- Doing so would “allow stakeholders time to adapt to new requirements,” it said
- As a result, it’s proposing that the EU “postpone the deadline for adoption of the sector-specific European sustainability reporting standards”
