German financial watchdog BaFin has initiated a special audit at DWS concerning the handling of sustainability issues, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports without saying how it got the information.

• Audit conducted by Deloitte focuses on the so-called engagement process, in which DWS aims to enter into a critical dialog with problematic companies in its portfolio
• Audit is also linked to allegations and concerns raised by a manager about the engagement process
• It is still unclear whether the latest events will now also be dealt with in greater depth by the public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt
