A former Elsevier employee sued the Dutch academic publishing company alleging that he was fired after raising greenwashing concerns.
Kip Lyall, a former illustration and design program manager at scientific journal publisher Cell Press—a subsidiary of Elsevier—filed a proposed class action suit on Monday in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
Lyall’s greenwashing complaint said the company pledged to protect the climate in marketing materials but was supporting the fossil fuel industry at the same time. Lyall said he was “intimidated and harassed” after raising his climate concerns, and was ultimately fired in August 2023.
