Disney Says Investor Suit Over DeSantis Fight Driven by Politics

Walt Disney Co. said a shareholder’s suit demanding access to internal records on the company’s fight with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over a law limiting classroom instruction on sexual orientation is politically motivated and should be rebuffed.

Kenneth Simeone filed a so-called “books and records” suit against the company in December, saying he needed to inspect corporate files because Disney’s decision to oppose the law dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” by critics created “far-reaching” financial risks. Such records could be used to sue company executives or directors for breaching their duties to investors.
