Delta Flight Attendants Reject AFA, Ending Former Northwest Workers’ Representation

Flight attendants at Delta Air Lines have voted against representation by the Association of Flight Attendants for the carrier’s combined workforce following its 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines, according to results released Nov. 3 by the National Mediation Board.

As a result, under NMB procedures, AFA, an affiliate of the Communication Workers of America, will be decertified as the representative of approximately 7,100 flight attendants at former Northwest, and Delta’s combined workforce of about 20,000 flight attendants will be unrepresented.

The Northwest employees have been represented by AFA or a predecessor union for the past 63 years.
