Cigna Sued by Investor on Automated Claim Denial Allegations (1)

An investor is suing Cigna Group over claims that the insurance giant denies patient claims using an automated system without any meaningful review by a doctor.

The shareholder lawsuit, filed Wednesday, seeks internal company files to investigate allegations first raised in a ProPublica report. Cigna is also facing congressional scrutiny, potential state regulatory actions, and a proposed class action filed in federal court in July on behalf of patients who say the insurer spent just 1.2 seconds each reviewing 300,000 claims across a two-month period in 2022.
