A group of conservative Christian investors pressed Costco Wholesale Corp., Walmart Inc., and a handful of other retailers with pharmacies not to sell mifepristone, a drug that can be used to induce an abortion.
Providing mifepristone creates reputational risks and could drive away customers, the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian activist organization, warned in letters to the CEOs of Costco, Walmart, Kroger Co., Albertsons Cos., and McKesson Corp. The group, along with Christian investors and financial advisers, sent the letters late last week, according to a press release circulated on Tuesday.
