Lawmakers on Thursday called for broader enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, a relatively new US human rights law that targets goods manufactured with materials originating from the Xinjiang region of China.
The forced labor law, which took effect in 2022, assumes that any product made with goods even partially sourced from Xinjiang has been made with forced labor, unless a company can prove otherwise. The Department of Homeland Security maintains a list of entities in Xinjiang that mine, produce or manufacture goods with forced labor that companies must avoid in their supply chains.
