Carbon Capture Permit Snag Imperils Billions, US Businesses Say

Biden administration officials gushing about a wave of carbon capture projects supercharged by the Inflation Reduction Act must break a government permitting logjam that threatens billions of dollars worth of potential investment to trap emissions from steel plants, ethanol mills and refineries, business groups argued Tuesday.

“The administration’s actions are not matching its words,” and would-be investors in carbon capture “are increasingly concerned about uncertain permitting timelines” and delays that are “obstructing” needed investments, business and manufacturing groups from five states said in a letter Tuesday to EPA Administrator Michael Regan.
