California Air Pollution Waiver Congressional Debate Heats Up

Republican lawmakers want answers from a government watchdog explaining why the agency doesn’t deem a Biden-era decision allowing California to adopt stricter emissions standards for cars and trucks qualified for repeal under the Congressional Review Act.

The April 1 letter from two GOP House chairmen to the Government Accountability Office comes as the party prepares measures to gut the California waiver for emissions standards using the measure targeting recent administration rules. Republicans have used the CRA frequently since January to roll back several clean energy rules put in place during the Biden administration.
