Blue Bell Listeria Case May Get New Life After Years-Long Pause

A Blue Bell Creameries USA Inc. board committee has taken the highly unusual step of urging a judge to let a shareholder move forward with years-old legal claims blaming the company’s directors for a deadly listeria outbreak.

The special litigation committee—three outside board members appointed well after the court case was underway—moved Monday to hand the lawsuit back to the investor who originally filed it in Delaware’s Chancery Court. The case concerns a 2015 outbreak that killed three people and forced the nearly 120-year-old ice cream maker to pull its products from store shelves.
