Ben & Jerry’s was effectively stripped of independent directors from its board, in the latest escalation of a dispute between the ice-cream brand known for its social mission and parent Magnum Ice Cream Co.

Six of eight members of the board, which since 2000 has controlled the Vermont-based brand’s social mission, have stepped down, leaving just two directors linked to the parent company and major shareholder Unilever Plc.
