Anthem, Blue Cross Georgia Ink $3.6 Million Cancer Coverage Deal

Anthem Insurance Cos. and Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthcare Plan of Georgia Inc. agreed to pay more than $3.6 million to settle a lawsuit claiming they wrongly refused to cover prostate cancer treatments.

The proposed settlement, announced Tuesday in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, is expected to benefit about 140 people who unsuccessfully sought coverage for their proton beam radiation therapy treatments from the defendants. It’s subject to approval from Judge William L. Campbell Jr.
