Amazon Pays CA$1.1 Million Penalty Over Canadian Pricing Issues

Amazon.com Inc. has agreed to pay C$1.1 million ($825,000) in a settlement with Canadian regulators for allegedly overstating potential savings to customers.

The company said that it had relied on corporate suppliers to provide list price information. But the settlement demonstrates that online retailers should ensure that list prices they obtain from suppliers are accurate before using them as a basis for savings claims, or face scrutiny from Canada’s competition enforcer.
