Amazon Investors Rebuff Studying AI’s Impact on Human Rights (1)

Amazon.com Inc. investors on Wednesday rejected a proposal urging the e-commerce giant’s board to establish a new committee focused on the human rights risks artificial intelligence could pose to workers.

The bid, put forward by the AFL-CIO, said for example that AI used in human resources decisions could result in employment discrimination.

“The development and deployment of AI technology without adequate human rights due diligence has resulted in a range of human rights risks and harms to employees, users, vulnerable communities and society at large,” the proposal said.
