Alphabet Inc. investors on Friday voted against a proposal seeking a report on the privacy risks caused by abortion-related law enforcement requests.
While Alphabet’s subsidiary Google has pledged to protect abortion-related data, the company still retains location search query information and location history data for certain users, Arjuna Capital said in its proxy statement. Alphabet didn’t provide percentage results for the failed proposal.
The shareholder’s call for an independent assessment of Google’s data-protection efforts is based on concerns that law enforcement in states that limit abortion access could obtain personal information from the tech giant.
