Disgraced and disbarred South Carolina lawyer Richard Alex Murdaugh was sentenced on Monday to 40 years in prison on 22 counts alleging he stole from his former law firm’s clients and his deceased housekeeper’s family.
Murdaugh pleaded guilty to the federal charges—conspiracy, bank fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering—in September.
The federal sentence is set to be served concurrently with his active state sentences for the murders of his wife and son and the state financial offenses to which Murdaugh already pleaded guilty.
