Albertsons Gets Nod to Buy Back 29 Haggen Stores

April 1, 2016, 12:16 AM UTC

A federal bankruptcy court in Delaware March 29 approved a request by Albertsons to repurchase 29 of 146 retail food stores it sold last year to a regional grocery store chain in Washington state so the Federal Trade Commission would consent to an Albertsons-Safeway merger (Haggen Holdings LLC, Bankr. D. Del., 1:15-bk-11874, order 3/29/16).

The reacquisitions came after Haggen Holdings LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September, two months after laying off hundreds of workers and cutting the hours of others, all represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers 176 DLR A-5, 9/11/15, 178 PBGCN, 9/15/15, 29 LRW 1860, 9/16/15
