Zeldin Disputes Renewables Claims as ‘Screwed Up’ Math (Correct)

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin locked horns with Senate lawmakers Wednesday over the question of whether renewable energy or fossil fuel-based energy is cheaper for ratepayers.

Democrats on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee tried to link the Trump administration’s anti-renewable moves to the affordability crisis. But their exchanges with Zeldin frequently got bogged down in factual disagreements.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said offshore wind costs 9 cents per kilowatt-hour—half the current rate of residential electricity—and that the continued operation of six coal plants have cost ratepayers an extra $230 million in less than a year.
