Plaintiffs in the new youth climate lawsuit against the Trump administration urged a federal district judge to freeze three executive orders on energy development, science, and renewables.
The motion, filed June 13 in Lighthiser v. Trump, seeks a preliminary injunction to halt the executive orders (EOs) the young plaintiffs claim exceed presidential authority and defy preexisting statue laid out by Congress.
“The EOs identify no constitutional or statutory authority allowing the President to ‘unleash’ the accelerated development of fossil fuels and resulting GHG pollution that drives the climate crisis—because none exists,” according to the motion.
