Xoom Electricity Customers Get Class Certified in Rate Dispute

A federal court certified a class of electricity customers who claimed that NRG Energy Inc. subsidiary Xoom Energy LLC charged exorbitant rates.

The class would include “all New York XOOM residential or small commercial customers who were charged a variable rate for electricity or natural gas under the operative 2013 XOOM New York variable rate sales contract or its equivalent language at any time from January 1, 2013 through and including the date of judgment,” Judge Allyne R. Ross of the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York said Thursday.
