After promising during his election campaign to put import taxes back at the center of US economic policy during his second term as president, President Donald Trump has taken steps in that direction. Across-the-board tariffs of 10% on imports from China went into effect on Feb. 4. Trump had also ordered25% tariffs on all goods from Canada and Mexico but paused them for 30 days after leaders of the two countries committed to addressing demands he’d made on them.
