Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D), in a bid to save Puget Sound’s critically endangered orca from extinction, issued an executive order March 14 calling for immediate steps to bring the 76 remaining killer whales back from the brink.
“We know there are multiple threats to the orca, not just one: lack of prey; noise and spatial disturbance from vessels, toxic contaminants, and the potential for catastrophic oil spill,” Inslee said before signing the executive order.
