Western Refining Will Pay $1.45 Million To Settle Clean Air Act Violations in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas—An El Paso, Texas, petroleum refinery has agreed to pay a $1.45 million penalty and make significant reductions in emissions to settle alleged violations of the Clean Air Act, under a proposed consent decree to be published in the Federal Register July 7 (United States v. Western Refining Co. LP).

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, the proposed settlement would require Western Refining Co. LP to make significant reductions in emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and benzene and to minimize flaring, set up sulfur recovery systems, ...
