A jury must decide whether Welco Manufacturing’s joint compound caused a drywall finisher to develop cancer based on evidence that its product was one of those he used the most, an Illinois appeals court ruled (Startley v. Welco Mfg. Co., 2017 BL 78877, Ill. App. Ct., 1st Dist., 1-15-3649, 3/14/17).
The ruling means the estate of Ronnie Startley will have another chance to show that his exposure to asbestos in Wel-Cote joint compound caused his mesothelioma.
