Water Projects in Western States Get $585 Million Boost (1)

The California Central Valley Project, Colorado River levee systems, and other water projects across the West will get upgrades funded with $585 million from the bipartisan infrastructure law, the Interior Department said Wednesday.

The department announced funding for 83 projects in 11 Western states that will increase water canal capacity, provide water treatment for tribes, upgrade hydropower equipment, and maintain aging buildings at water project sites across the region.

Some of the projects help to shore up water supplies in regions of the West that were severely drought-stricken for 23 years until this winter’s heavy rain and snow inundated them. ...
